Summer Solstice & International Yoga Day

Join us for a special 60 minute session of elemental yoga and sound healing in celebration of Summer Solstice and International Yoga Day.

Taking place in the Painted Hall, participants pose and relax under the splendour of Sir James Thornhill’s magnificent ceiling, where the Summer zodiacs accompany Ceres, Goddess of Agriculture who represents Summer with her sickle and sheaf of wheat.

The session will start with a gentle moving meditation and grounding elements such as hip openers and floor postures. We will also explore rhythmic asanas (backbends and gentle inversions) to mimic the pulsation of the Earth.

As we move on into a complete state of relaxation, we will immerse ourselves into the grandeur of the Painted Hall through the sacred sounds of the Himalayan singing bowls that will leave you feeling incredibly calm and relaxed.

Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat and will be allowed 30 minutes to fully explore the Painted Hall after the session finishes.

Participants must be 18 years old. Everyone is welcome to take part in the 45 minutes yoga session, but please mind that the 15 minutes sound session at the end is not suitable if you suffer from epilepsy, are within the first 3 months of pregnancy, have a pacemaker or any serious health diagnosis. Participants are reminded that the Old Royal Naval College is unable to provide lockers and changing facilities, but our staff will supervise the session which will have exclusive access to the Painted Hall. Participants are also asked to bring their own yoga mat.
